US COLLEGES UNIVERSITY

Stanford , Princeton & 3 Other Elite Varsities to offer free online classes 

                                Five prestigious US university will create free online courses for students worldwide through a new, interactive education platform dubbed Coursera, the founders announced on Wednesday. The two founders, both professors of computer science at Stanford University , also announced that they had received $16 million in financing from two silicon valley venture firms. Coursera will offer more than three dozen college courses in the coming  year through website at course-ra.org, on subject ranging from Greek mythology to neurology, form calculus to contemporary American poetry.

                             The classes are designed and taught by professor at Standford , Princeton , the university of California at Berkeley, the university of Pennsylvania and the university of Michigan . Coursera joins a raft of ambitious online projects aimed at making higher education more accessible and affordable. Many of these ventures , however simply post entire lecture on the web, with no interactive component. Others strive to create brand- new universities form scratch. Multiple - choice and short - answer test will be computer scored. Coursera will soon unveil a system of peer grading to assess more complex work, such as essays or algorithms. Students will not get college credit. But Coursera may offer ''certificate of completion '' or transcripts for a fee. The company may also seek to turn a profit by connecting employers with students who have shown aptitude in a particular field , a spokeswoman said . The 13th edition of ''The official Guide for GMAT review includes more than 900 real question and answer explanations from past GMAT exams. A new chapter has details on the new IR section, and instructions on how to access an online study companion with 50 IR question.

UNITED KINGDOM STUDENT VISAS 2012

                                        Changes to United Kingdom visas, announced on march 2012 , 2011 have come into force on April 6, 2011.According to the changes, the post study work PSW route, which earlier allowed students to work in the united kingdom for two years after they completed their studies , will close. Students graduating with a united kingdom degree, PGCE or PGDE from a a recognized or listed body will need to successfully apply for a job with a united kingdom border agency licensed tier 2 sponsor to remain and work in the united kingdom. The post for which they are applying must be paid a minimum salary of £20,000 or the minimum set out in the relevant code of practice.

                              
                                       However according to Nick Petford , Vice Chancellor , university to Northampton , the withdrawal of PSW  does not mean that the united kingdom is closed in terms of employment opportunities to Indian graduate and post graduate from united kingdom university.

                                                         Petford explains, ''There are still opportunities for graduates to apply for employment under Tier 2 work - permit which allows for graduate level employment . Also skills short age areas are open to non - EU applicants to obtain work in the united kingdom. Skills shortage areas are kept under constant review and updated to meet needs of united kingdom industries for qulified employees. There are also a range of other schemes to enable talented and entrepreneurial graduates to experience employment opportunities in the united kingdom , ie, the new Tier 1 graduate entrepreneur scheme.'' 

                                                        '' The government clearly recognises the contribution - financial and otherwise - that skilled international graduates can bring to the united kingdom economy . It is  therefore , ensuring that the brightest and the best graduate with job offers commensurate with their qualification have a route to work in the united kingdom after their studies,'' she had said.

                                David Cameron prime minister of UK recently announced 60 new jubilee scholarships for Indian student who will receive full finding for a one year master's course in the united kingdom , starting September. The award , funded by the British Council , will be open to application from across India and aims to include students from every Indian state among its awareness .

                                  A part of THE GREAT campaign , the scholarships will be offered only in the areas of business administration , manufacture , and science and technology , which have been identified as popular subjects  that Indian students opt for in the united kingdom. The scholarships will cover the university tuition fees , living expense for the duration of the scholarships (for a maximum of 12 months )and a one month internship programme in the united kingdom  approximately GBP 900-1000  per month  along with return airfare and a united kingdom visa .
